Suffolk, Virginia: Oak Lawn Cemetery mapping project

Oak Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia

Over the weekend, we started a project to map the extant interments of Oak Lawn Cemetery, est. 1885. Since our first visit to Oak Lawn in 2011, we’ve been privileged to meet many descendants and family members with ties to the cemetery. Some were not quite sure where their ancestors’ burial sites were located. Nothing is worse than meeting descendants in the cemetery, and then seeing families searching for their folks. We’ve helped descendants in years past locate graves and replace damaged monuments in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia cemeteries, and hope to do the same at Oak Lawn.

Phase 1 of the project will take place over the next few weeks. If any family members and/or descendants need to know the exact location of their ancestors’ graves, contact us through this website, or through our “Contact” page at Oak Lawn Cemetery (est. 1885). (Pictured is the location of the grave of Civil War veteran Redmond Parker of the 1st U. S. Colored Cavalry, as documented July 11, 2020, Google Earth.)
