Wilson County, North Carolina: Beyond the academic; what remains of an ancestral African American Cemetery

Passing through Wilson County over the weekend, we made a brief stop at Rountree-Vick Cemetery, Wilson. It’s the last resting place of three members of the Neal Family of Franklin County, North Carolina, on the maternal side of our family tree. It’s a disappointing and sobering reality to visit a fourth ancestral cemetery that has been destroyed: paved over, and/or stripped of its headstones and grave markers.
