Death record for John Zachariah Young (ca. 1848-1911), Portsmouth, Virginia.

There’s nothing quite like solving a long-standing mystery in your family tree. Yesterday, I finally found the death record of my great-great-great-grandfather, Zachariah Young, born a ‘free person of color’ about 1848, Portsmouth, Virginia. His mom, my great-great-great-great-grandmother, Patience Young (ca. 1826-1897), was also born free in Portsmouth. For nearly eighteen years, I only knew Zachariah passed away after 1910, and a feeling that he was buried in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Complex. Today, we have confirmation, of his date of death, and burial location. An added bonus I now know why my great-great-grandfather, Virginius Young, named my great-grandfather, “John.” ❤ John Zachariah Young (ca. 1848-1911) is the fifty-eighth ancestor we’ve identified in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Complex.
